Located inside an unassuming office building in Mayfield Village, the headquarters of one of the biggest upstart lighting companies has quietly become a national force.

Wireless Enviorment is the creator of Mr. Beams, a line of off-grid, battery powered, motion sensor lights that quickly became best-sellers on Amazon upon their debut. Company president David Levine initially teamed with his friend and tech whiz Michael Recker to create a solution for an automatic closet light, a project that led to the duo opening a business together in 2006.

Recently purchased by security company Ring, Wireless Enviorment is dedicated to remaining in the Northern Ohio area. We asked Levine about his thoughts on what it takes to run a successful start-up, and how Cleveland business owners could better take advantage of what the city has to offer.
