Brooklyn Nichols, owner of BK Beauty, Massillon’s only black-owned beauty supply store, took home the $10,000 top prize at the Stark County Small Business Impact Program Showcase.

Hosted in The Club at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton on May 15, the showcase featured five Stark County-based businesses pitching to a live audience and panel of judges for a chance to take home up to $10,000 in grant capital. Each participating business took home at least $2,500 to grow their business.

Pitch participants were recent graduates of JumpStart’s Small Business Impact Program, a 12-week accelerator designed to fast-track small business growth. The program, offered twice annually, provides personalized advising and intensive business training.

Launched in Cleveland in 2016, the Impact Program has graduated more than 190 small businesses and has been recently re-established in Stark County. In addition to Brooklyn from BK Beauty, the inaugural cohort included small business owners across various industries:

• Adrian Culler | Cullers Barbershop and Supply
  With over two decades of expertise in styling and hair care, the Canton-based business makes sure every patron leaves feeling their best.
• Aaron Dukes | Pristine Steam Wash
  A mobile car detailing service using the highest quality products and equipment to ensure your car looks and feels new.
• Lisa Bast | Waggin Trails
  This all-in-one bag frees pet owners from carrying smelly, waste-filled bags on outings with their pets.
• Tyler Lab | The Sole Truth
  Through cutting-edge 3D printing technology, this company produces custom insoles that enhance comfort and prevent injuries caused by prolonged standing.
