JumpStart Receives Economic Opportunity Award At State MLK Jr. Event
JumpStart Inc. was one of seven recognized today at Ohio’s 32nd annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration in Columbus.
JumpStart CEO Ray Leach, according to a press release from the organization, accepted the Economic Opportunity Award. JumpStart was selected based on its commitment to promoting greater diversity and inclusion in the venture capital investing community, the release read.
“On behalf of everyone at JumpStart, we are honored to receive this award,” said Leach in a written statement. “It’s also important to point out that this work would not have been possible without the long-term vision of our state government — particularly the Ohio Third Frontier — who has been one of our largest and most-valued supporters.”
An example of the commitment to diversity includes JumpStart’s Focus Fund, a $10 million venture capital fund dedicated to funding female and minority entrepreneurs in Ohio, as well as the organization’s Core City: Cleveland program, which is designed specifically to assist entrepreneurs who live or work in under-served areas of Cleveland.
