Meet Our Core City: Cleveland Impact Program’s Spring 2018 Cohort

We are excited to welcome the fifth cohort to our Core City: Cleveland Impact Program! This 12-week business assistance program is designed to drive economic impact in the city of Cleveland by helping individuals overcome obstacles to entrepreneurship through hands-on advising and industry-specific mentoring.

Over the next three months, these five individuals will be learning and working together alongside JumpStart’s Core City: Cleveland team—culminating in a demo day-style competition where program participants will use their new knowledge and skills to pitch to a panel of judges for a chance to take home up to $10,000 to grow their business.

Cathy’s: Gourmet Ice Cream Sandwiches

Cathy Green came up with the idea for her business while studying for the bar exam. Located in the heart of Downtown Cleveland, the gourmet ice cream sandwich shop combines made-from-scratch cookies based on a family recipe with all natural ice cream provided by Just Glaze Ice Cream Co.  The business also helps support CathyCares, a local non-profit that partners with high schools to offer monthly programming to teach female students how to be strong girl bosses.

Communion Social Lounge was birthed from a passion to develop quality wine with an unforgettable taste at affordable prices. The business has grown steadily, and recently expanded to a new location in Slavic Village after it was selected as one of six winners of Cleveland Chain Reaction, a business competition designed to give the neighborhood an economic boost.

Inspired by the kitchen skills (and work ethic) of two Grandmothers named Pearline Scott & Delores Flowers, PearlFlower Catering focuses on personalized menus using locally sourced ingredients and was recently selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers—alongside two other local minority-owned food businesses—to bring three signature dishes to Quicken Loans Arena’s “Test Kitchen’ for fans to enjoy.
